Art Basel HK '19 | Design Trust x Prada Mode
An electrifying art week during the annual Basel HK was joined this year by the energetic program developed by Design Trust (HK)the organization headed by Marisa Yu, which has been active in supporting design research and practice in the PRD for over ten years.
As members of its advisory board we were excited to join the launch of the 2019 Design Future Studios program centering on the exploration of ''Heritage as Innovation''. The 2019 program, that customarily brings together industry experts and emerging talents to create positive outcomes that impact society and public spaces in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, will test a series of design dialogues and prototypes at the historic 1936 Haw Par Mansion in Tai Hang, and experiment with whether they can extend to other cultures and communities beyond Hong Kong.
The launch saw the unveiling of some of the exciting prototypes so far developed by the new mentors/mentees teams including Elaine NG of Fabriclab, Adonian Chan, Julie Progin & Jesse Mclin of Latitude 22N and duo Florian Wegenast & Christine Lew, among others.
Also part of the program was a design dialogue held in the Prada Mode space on “Architectural Activism–between heritage and innovation–HK and beyond” - Bea was there contributing to the talk with Marisa Yiu (Co-founder / Executive Director of Design Trust) and Aric Chen (Curatorial Director of Design Miami) as moderators and other speakers Ho Puay-peng (Professor Head of Department, Department of Architecture of School of Design and Environment in National University of Singapore), Hunter Tura (President and Chief Executive Officer of Bruce Mau Design), Alexander Groves (Co-founder of Studio Swine).
